Lecture description
Climate change is rapidly altering the environmental conditions of forests. Many native tree species cannot adapt quickly enough; there is no single "super tree" that meets all requirements. Therefore, proactive measures are necessary: By selectively introducing climate-resistant tree species and provenances, the risk can be mitigated, and the forest landscape can be made stable and sustainable. A key element is assisted migration – the introduction of species from regions whose current climate will prevail in Bavaria in the future. Because natural migration is too slow, this increases adaptability and resilience, thus securing ecosystem services in the long term.
